Canberra: Rival captains Anil Kumble and Ricky Ponting will meet ahead of the third Test in Perth in an attempt to re-establish an atmosphere of goodwill and trust between the sides. ICC chief match referee Ranjan Madugalle, sent by the governing body to get the two captains together, has requested the “cool-off” session scheduled on Monday. The relations between the Indian and Australian teams broke down after the fractious second Test at Sydney that threatened to derail India’s tour of Australia. Kumble said here before the tour game that he was hopeful of “thrashing things out with Ricky”. Ponting recently told a local newspaper that his side would “review a few things they had done during the Sydney Test”. Hearing todayAlso scheduled for Monday is the Code of Conduct hearing pertaining to the charge of a Level Three offence against Australian wrist-spinner Brad Hogg. The third Test begins on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Gary Kirsten has joined the team and will serve as a consultant. — Special Correspondent
