KOCHI: BPL Healthcare Business Unit, a division of the BPL Group, has introduced new products for enhancing diagnostic capabilities. The products, including laser glucose monitor, digital auscultation device and defibrillator, will facilitate more accurate diagnosis, according to Vijay Simha, Chief Operating Officer of the Healthcare Business division. One of the new products, Viscope 100, has an improved technology in comparison to the traditional stethoscope. Blood sugar testThe new device helps the doctor ‘visualise’ abnormalities using sophisticated computational methods incorporated in it. The results are displayed on a LCD screen mounted on the device. The laser glucose monitor draws less than one microlitre of blood. The high energy laser beam sterilises the area around the puncture. This removes the pain and the chances of infection while routinely drawing samples for blood sugar analysis, according to him. The Public Access Defibrillator is an automated microcontroller to help patients with cardiac problems. Pointing out that sudden cardiac arrest resulted in a large number of deaths, Mr. Vijay Simha said the survival rate could be improved if a defibrillator shock is delivered within 5 to 12 minutes of the incidence. The BPL device could be operated both by medical professionals and informed citizens, he said.
