Joel Joseph helps IOB take lead

CHENNAI: School boy Joel Joseph bagged five wickets with his off-spin to help IOB grab the first innings lead over Young Stars on the second day of the TNCA senior division league at the MAC stadium.

Replying to IOB’s 206, Young Stars was skittled out for 166 with L.N. Prasad Reddy providing the only resistance with 65.

At the IIT Chemplast ground, Jaffer Ashique Ali’s robust 53 (7x4, 2x6) helped India Pistons snatch an exciting one-run lead over Jolly Rovers. For the latter, State off-spinner R. Ashwin finished with five for 88. Pistons’ off-spinner M. Prabhu, who had a five-wicket haul in the first innings, picked another three to put Rovers in a spot of bother in the second essay.

Grand Slam, which declared after posting 409, shot out Parry for 153, the innings ending off the last ball of the day.

Aruna CC could not recover from the setback suffered on Saturday and conceded the lead to Alwarpet at the Railway ground.

Vijay in command

At the SRM ground, Vijay CC recovered from 85 for three to declare its innings at 324 for eight against Indian Bank. R. Prasanna, Sreekumar Nair and S. Sharath all made 70-plus scores to put Vijay in a comfortable position. Indian Bank, 161 runs behind, slipped to 72 for five at close.

Eagle’s Raghuram and Globe Trotters’ Aashish Kapoor returned with five-wicket hauls at the MRF Pachaiyappa’s ground. Trotters was sitting pretty in this contest despite Eagle’s Wilkins Victor making an impressive 87 in the side’s total of 182.

At MAC: IOB 206 and 19 for no loss in 18 overs v Young Stars 166 in 70.2 overs (L.N. Prasad Reddy 65, Joel Joseph five for 54).

At Railway ground: Alwarpet 160 and 113 for three in 51 overs (Subramania Siva 55 not out) v Aruna 132 in 60.5 overs.

At IIT-Chemplast: Jolly Rovers 212 and 105 for five in 28 overs v India Pistons 213 in 75.2 overs (Vikram Mani 47, Jaffer Ashique Ali 53, R. Ashwin five for 88).

At ICL-Guru Nanak: Grand Slam 409 for eight decl. in 115 overs (Sunil Oasis 41) v Parry 153 in 63 overs.

At SRM: Indian Bank 163 and 72 for five in 24 overs v Vijay 324 for eight decl. in 92.4 overs (R. Prasanna 73, Sreekumar Nair 74, S. Sharath 70, G.R. Sadasiv Iyer 46).

At MRF-Pach ‘A’: Globe Trotters 267 in 108.3 overs (Sunil Viswanathan 56, R. Raghuram five for 65) and 23 for no loss in five overs v Eagle 182 in 67.1 overs (Wilkins Victor 87, Aashish Kapoor five for 76).
