THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kannur district emerged winners in the first State-level Continuing Education Arts Festival which concluded here on Sunday. Palakkad and Kottayam won the second and third places respectively. The Kannur team bagged 58 points, including 42 in the competitions for Preraks and 16 in the contests for students, to take home the ever-rolling trophy. Palakkad won 48 points (30 for preraks and 18 for students) while Kottayam secured 34 points (14 points for Preraks and 20 for students). Smitha from Kasaragod was adjudged the individual champion in the student category and T.V. Sajeevan from Kannur was the winner in the Prerak category. As many as 1,200 contestants, including literacy volunteers and students, participated in the two-day event organised by the Kerala State Literacy Mission. Competitions were held in 27 events. The following is the position of the other districts: Thiruvananthapuram – 19, Kollam – 23, Pathanamthitta – 22, Alappuzha – 7, Idukki – 28, Ernakulam – 8, Thrissur – 29, Malappuram – 22, Wayanad – 17, Kozhikode – 23 and Kasaragode – 10. Varkala Radhakrishnan, Chirayinkeezh MP, gave away the prizes to the winners.
