The rise in road accidents has thrown up the need for more sophisticated ambulance to rush the victims to the hospital. In most cases, the victims are first admitted to hospital close to accident and later shifted to Medical College Hospital. And that is the time when the victim needs critical care. The number of ambulances with critical care facilities are few. Many private hospitals do have such ambulances but they are beyond the reach of the common man. The government should provide more hi-tech ambulance facilities to all Medical Colleges and district hospitals in the State. R. Jishi Palayam Sad state of affairsWhile we Keralites keep harping about our heritage and academic excellence, Thiruvananthapuram is an apology for any State capital. The city is now overcrowded and high-rises have marred the city’s greenery. Basic amenities such as uninterrupted drinking water and power supply are things of the past. Moreover, open spaces within the city are being usurped. The arterial roads of the city, especially M.G. Road, are often choked by rallies and protests by political parties of all hues. Wanton destruction of public property is the order of the day. Capt. (Rtd.) O. Mathai Kowdiar
