KOCHI: The 63rd annual conference of the Association of Physicians of India (API) concluded here on Sunday with a resolve to take scientific workshops to rural areas. This will help physicians in remote areas update their knowledge of new technologies and methods in modern medicine. Many doctors handling clinics and small hospitals single-handedly are unable to attend workshops held in cities. The Indian College of Physicians, the academic body of API, will take the initiative to start such workshops. The three-day conference was packed with 350 scientific sessions. Young scientists from various medical research institutions presented 450 free papers. The presentations at the conference will be published in the journal of API. The Indian College of Physicians granted 22 fellowships at the conference. Eight meet-the-expert sessions and three interactive case sessions were held. The valedictory function was presided over by S.K. Bichile, the new president of API. Senior API members, V. Parameswara from Bangalore, O.P. Sharma from Delhi, and guest faculty Vijay Sood from the U.K., spoke.
