PATNA: Taking note of some senior IPS officials not surrendering their service revolvers even after retirement, Bihar government has asked them to return the weapons immediately or face legal action. Opposition RJD had raised a hue and cry in the State Sssembly on December 14 last when State party president Abdul Bari Siddiqui informed the House that over 18 senior IPS officials, who had either retired or gone on deputation to the Centre or Jharkhand several years ago had not deposited their revolvers/pistols as yet. Siddiqui had demanded that the state government take legal action against such officials immediately. High-level meetingState Energy Minister Bijendra Yadav, who is also in-charge of the Home (police) department, held a high-level meeting with the Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha and principal Home secretary Afzal Amanullah recently on the issue, official sources said on Sunday. The IPS officials were asked to return the weapons immediately failing which legal action would be taken against them. The state police headquarters identified around 14 senior IPS officers, including a retired DGP, who had not returned the weapons provided to them by the state government even after their retirement or deputation elsewhere several years ago, sources said. Cadre changeThe cadre of the six of these 14 officials changed when the state was bifurcated in 2000 and they are currently serving the Jharkhand government. - PTI
