E.V. Velu TIRUVANNAMALAI: Food Minister E.V. Velu inaugurated a free yoga training centre on the premises of the District Sports Complex here on Monday. He also distributed prizes to the winners of the ‘Samathuva Kabaddi Tournament’ connected in connection with the ‘Samathuva Pongal’ celebrations. Mr. Velu said that the State government was giving importance to yoga training to the youth since it was necessary to keep oneself mentally and physically healthy. Besides, anyone, irrespective of age, can practise yoga. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was very active even at the age of 84 since he was practising yoga both in the morning and evening every day. The Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs. 5 crore for the establishment of sports centres in all the 12,000 village panchayats in Tamil Nadu. Besides, he has sanctioned Rs.1.32 crore each for the establishment of swimming pools in Tiruvannamalai and Thiruvarur. The work on the construction of swimming pools was in progress in both the towns. The Minister urged the District Sports Officer Pugazhendhi to conduct a sporting event every month in the District Sports Complex. V. Balakrishnan, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvannamalai, K. Pitchandi, Tiruvannamalai MLA, P.S. Vijayakumar, Polur MLA, Ganesan, Assistant Director of Village Panchayats, Meganathan, Personal Assistant (Panchayat Development) to the Collector, Muthukrishnan, president, District Kabaddi Association, P. Indirarajan, secretary, Tiruvannamalai District Exnora and M. Vijayakumar, District Information and Public Relations Officer spoke. Suresh Kumar, secretary, District Kabaddi Association proposed a vote of thanks.
