Works under NREGS in progress in 860 village panchayats House site pattas distributed to 138 persons TIRUVANNAMALAI: Administrative sanction has been accorded by the government for undertaking 4095 works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) at the cost of Rs.159 crore in Tiruvannamalai district during 2007-2008, according to Collector Satyabrata Sahoo. Distributing welfare aids to 195 beneficiaries during the ‘Manu Needhi Naal’ (public grievances redressal day) camp organised at Vinnamangalam village in Cheyyar panchayat union in Tiruvannamalai district on Thursday, Mr. Sahoo said that works under the NREGS were in progress in all 860 village panchayats in the district. The scheme guarantees employment for a minimum of 100 days in a year to the beneficiaries. He said that the government would respond even if the members of the public give petitions, seeking assistance under various government schemes. If the petitioners were eligible for the assistance sought, they would get the assistance immediately. The Collector distributed house site pattas to 138 persons, land pattas to eight persons, patta copies to three persons, old age pension orders to 14 persons, family cards to 16 persons, cheques under the marriage assistance scheme to 10 beneficiaries and cheques for Rs.15,200 each to four girl children under the Sivakami Ammayar Memorial Girl Child Protection Scheme. Balaraman, Revenue Divisional Officer, Cheyyar, Suganya Pari, chairperson, Cheyyar panchayat union, Kuppusamy, Joint Director of Agriculture, Ganesan, Assistant Director of Panchayats, Susheela, District Social Welfare Officer, Annamalai, District Manager, Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO), Chandrasekaran, District Backward Classes Welfare Officer, Pakkirisamy, District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer and M. Vijayakumar, District Information and Pubic Relations Officer spoke.
