PUDUCHERRY: Students of St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School came first in the Indian National Philatelic Exhibition held at Chennai recently. A.J. Praveen Babu of Standard XI C, M. Prem Vignesh of XI A and R. Guru Vignesh of XI A received a cash prize of Rs.3,000 each, a science kit and philatelic books from Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament. The school celebrated Pongal on December 12 in a traditional manner with cultural programmes, sugarcane and rangolis. Sharon Monisha Rajkumar of Standard XI B from St. Patrick School won the first prize in the painting contest and K. Devada Sindhu of XI B won the second prize in the National Level Science Quiz Contest conducted during the Jawaharlal National Science Exhibition 2007. J. Sangavi of Standard VIII C secured a prize in the 10-15 years age category in the 15th International Yoga Festival organised by the Department of Tourism. She also won the first prize in the common and special group in her age category in the 22nd Pondicherry State and 4th Tamil Nadu Invitation Yoga Sports Championship 2007 conducted by the Pondicherry Yogasana Association. Abacus contestStudents of St.Joseph of Cluny School, Srinidhi. P of Standard V and Abisha Rezia. R of Standard IX, won the first prize and Anusha Rebecca of Standard IX the third prize in the Abacus competition conducted by Jaya Vidya Learning Centre, Chennai. Dharshini. R.K.K of Standard V won the third place in the essay competition conducted by Jeyamoorthy Raja Nagar Nala Sangam on January 10. Saradha. R of Standard IX came third in the 15th International Yoga Festival conducted by the Government of Puducherry. Thirukkural contestV. Ashisk Ganesh, an LKG student of Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School took part in the Thirukkural reciting competition organised by the Ulaga Thirukural Maiyam. He recited 20 couplets and received a participation certificate. Science CongressPetit Seminaire Higher Secondary School student K. Nirmal took part in the 15th National Children’s Science Congress – 2007. He presented a project on mosquito menace in Lawspet and Thattanchavady. He and his team members — Prasannakumar, S. Jeyakumar, A. Kevin and C. Komalashankaran — were presented medals and certificates on the concluding day by Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar. Prasannakumar of Standard X A presented his project at the Indian Science Congress that was held at Andhra University, Visakapatnam, on January 3.
