KANNUR: The three-day district conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), ahead of the 19th party congress, will begin here on January 19. CPI(M) district secretary P. Sasi said at a press conference here on Monday that party State secretary and Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the delegates’ session here at 10.30 a.m. As many as 360 delegates, selected by party area committee conferences and 45 district committee members would participate in the delegates’ session, he said. Relevance of MarxismHe said a seminar on ‘Relevance of Marxism’ would be held on January 20. There would be an exhibition on the CPI(M)’s history on January 21. The conference would be concluded with ac mass rally in which one lakh people would participate, Mr. Sasi said. Book releaseThe rally would be inaugurated by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthananandan. Mr. Vijayan would release a book ‘Porattangalude Ormakal’ (memories of struggles) at the function. Mr. Sasi said workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh were instigating violence against CPI(M) workers in a bid to create trouble ahead of the party’s district conference. He also alleged that the Congress was extending ‘support’ to the Sangh Parivar’s ‘design’ to vitiate the situation in the district.
