In a festive mood: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan arriving at the venue of the 48th State Schools’ Arts Festival in Kollam on Monday to inaugurate the valedictory function . KOLLAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the onslaught of the globalisation culture will not only harm our rich cultural traditions but also convert us into mere spectators of that culture. He was inaugurating the valedictory function of the 48th Kerala State Schools’ Arts Festival here on Monday. The Chief Minister said that already globalisation was attempting to convert us from producers into consumers. Mimicry and cinematic dances were part of the globalisation culture and these would not do any thing good to our cultural traditions, he added. The schools’ arts festival played a big role in saving us from globalisation. A great aspect of the festival was that it provided an opportunity for all students to participate since it began at the level of individual schools. The festival was also a reflection of Kerala’s great cultural tradition. However, care should be taken to ensure that the competition between children do not end up as a competition between their parents and teachers. He said that really talented students from the economically weaker sections should be given all support by parent teacher associations and the concerned local bodies. In his address, Education Minister M.A. Baby said that the festival which concluded in Kollam was able to identify great talents among the school students. Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan presided over the valedictory function. Food Minister C. Divakaran also addressed the gathering. Secretary of the Education Department James Varghese welcomed the gathering.
