Protests against Railways continue

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: Kannada organisations continued their protests against what they termed the “injustice” being meted out to Kannadigas in recruitment to Group ‘D’ posts in South Western Railway. They burnt the effigy of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad in the city. Another group courted arrest at Shahapur town while attempting to lock the post office, protesting against what they termed the anti-Karnataka stand of the Railways.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists, led by Veeranna M. Koralli, took out a mock funeral procession carrying the effigy of Mr. Prasad from Jagat Circle to the office of the Deputy Commissioner. They also staged a rasta roko for more than 30 minutes in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where they burnt the effigy.

The vedike also submitted a memorandum addressed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding his immediate intervention in the matter. The memorandum demanded that the Centre cancel the recruitment process and ensure that all the Group ‘D’ vacant posts be reserved for Kannadigas.
