DHARWAD: Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar said on Monday that the district administration would file criminal cases against those giving false information during revision of electoral rolls.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Srikar said the second phase of electoral revision was in full swing in the district and the final voters’ list would be announced on March 10. The revision of the list was being done according to the guidelines of the Election Commission.

In case of discrepancies in the voters’ list, the officer concerned would be held responsible. As many as 1,071 booth-level polling officers had been appointed in the district, he said.

One supervisory officer was in charge of every 10 booths. Three supervisory officers were under a nodal officer, he said.

Mr. Srikar appealed to the people to get their names registered during revision of electoral rolls.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with representatives of various political parties.

He apprised them of the measures being taken to make the voters’ list foolproof.

After the previous revision, it had been proposed to delete 86,000 names from the list and add 40,000 voters to it, he said.

He sought the cooperation of political parties in making the list foolproof. The representatives of political parties gave several suggestions to be followed during revision and urged the district administration to take steps to protect the rights of illiterate voters.

Ajay Nagabhushan, Commissioner of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation; Mohan Sasanur, headquarters assistant to the Deputy Commissioner; and Mahantesh Bilagi, Assistant Commissioner, were present.
