Travel agents come out against speed governors

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: The Mysore Travel Agents Association held a demonstration in front of Road Transport Office (RTO) here on Monday to register their protest against the Transport Department’s directive to all commercial vehicles for mandatory fitting of speed governors.

Though the Government has decided that all public transport and commercial vehicles should have speed governors, a device that regulates speed, in a bid to check road accidents, the travel agents in Mysore are upset over the increase in travel time and fuel consumption by vehicles if they were installed. Association president Prashanth B.S. said the installation of speed governors would prolong the journey of passengers travelling by commercial vehicles to a host of places of tourist interest in and around the city. “Vehiclesfitted with speed governors will consume more fuel”, he said.
