Marad case: parents asked to present absconding son

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Juvenile Justice Board has directed the parents of an absconding juvenile, charge-sheeted for crimes in the Marad massacre case of May 2003, to produce their son before the board within 20 days. The board comprising Kozhikode Chief Judicial Magistrate K.V. Gopikuttan and Nazir Chaliyam, advocate, on Monday issued directives to the parents who were summoned before it.

The parents had procured bail for the juvenile three years ago in the case in which nine fishermen were killed at the seaside village of Marad on May 2, 2003.

The police had arrested him along with four other juveniles. As many as 137 accused are facing trial in the case at the Marad Special Court. The trial of the juveniles began a few months ago.
