Tension in mining area over ‘trespass’

Staff Reporter

Officials of two companies accuse each other of trespass

ANANTAPUR: Mild tension prevailed in the iron ore mining area in Siddarampuram village limits of D.Hirehal mandal in the district on Monday after the workers and officials of Bellary Iron Ore Company (BIOC) and Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) accused each other of trespass into their territory of mining.

According to information reaching here, heaps of iron ore of the OMC had fallen into the territory of BIOC after a blast was conducted by the former on Monday morning.

Objection

The workers of OMC allegedly entered the territory of BIOC to collect heaps of iron ore fallen in that territory from the blasting conducted by them.

The workers and managerial staff of the BIOC reportedly objected to the OMC workers entering their territory.

The BIOC officials told their counterparts of OMC that it was illegal to enter their area and take the iron ore.

They also said that even the area of blasting belonged to them and it was occupied illegally by OMC.

Refuting the BIOC officials’ charges the OMC officials were learnt to have allegedly threatened the BIOC men and used filthy language against them and their owners. But, neglecting the BIOC objections the workers of OMC lifted the iron ore heaps from the BIOC territory.

Argument

When contacted, Sub-Inspector of D.Hirehal, Raja, told The Hindu that there was only a heated argument between the officials and workers of the two companies and not a brawl. A representative of the BIOC, Srinivasa Murthy, lodged a complaint with the police station that the OMC had trespassed their territory and had taken away iron ore. He also complained against the abusive language was used against their owners by the OMC managers. Representatives of the OMC too called up the police station stating that they would also lodge a complaint against trespass by BIOC. However, they did not turn up till night.
