Lalgudi Jayaraman CHENNAI: The Music Academy, Madras, will confer a special life time achievement award on violin maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, one of the stalwarts of Carnatic music, as part of its 80th anniversary celebrations. This was the first decision on the celebrations taken by the Executive Committee at its meeting held on January 13. The award is in recognition of and a tribute to the monumental contribution of the veteran Carnatic musician over the last six decades as an outstanding violinist, as a teacher, and a composer par excellence. According to a press release, the award will be given at a special function to be held shortly, details of which will be announced. The Music Academy, Madras, is turning 80 in 2008 and this momentous and auspicious landmark will be celebrated in a fitting manner and appropriate plans are being drawn up by the Executive Committee.
