Chitradurga: In the absence of effective plans to improve elementary education, India is seriously lagging behind in the creation of skilled manpower for its socio-economic development, principal of the Maharaja Madakari First Grade College A. Basappa has said. He was speaking after inaugurating “Shikshana Sankranti,” an education programme for B. Ed. and D. Ed. students of Bapuji Education Society here on Monday. He said education imparted to schoolchildren today did not help realise their potential. “It is turning out be more like a physical exercise rather than a thought-provoking process,” he said. Quoting a recent survey by UNESCO, Dr. Basappa said no university in the country had been listed among the top 200 universities of the world imparting higher education. He said 10 per cent of Indian youth were found unfit for employment in any sector.
