Madikeri
Leaders of various parties participate in demonstration 400 kV line from Kaiga to Kerala to pass via Kodagu Madikeri: People of Kanur, Kothur, Bekkesodlur and surrounding villages in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu on Monday staged a demonstration in protest against the proposed drawing of 400 kV nuclear power transmission line from Kaiga to Kerala through private land and forests in the district. They blocked traffic in Kanur for over an hour to vent their anger against the moves of the Power Grid Corporation of India, which is executing the project. The agitation began with the closing of a huge pit dug by the corporation a few days ago. Local leaders of various political parties participated in the protest. They included Kanda Bheemaiah of the Janata Dal (S), K.M. Subramani of the Congress, M.M. Ravindra of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ravi Chengappa of Cauvery Sene and members of the sene Shashi and Srinivas. Speaking at meeting presided over by a retired teacher, H.G. Vittal, C.S. Arun Machaiah, MLC, said nobody should disturb peace in the district by implementing “anti-people” projects. Drawing of high-tension power line would have an adverse impact on the people and the environment, he added.
