Lorry crosses un-manned crossing as train approaches Train gets delayed for nearly three hours ANANTAPUR: The No. 2157 Dadar (Mumbai)-Chennai superfast express was brought to a halt near Thondapadu village near Gooty on Monday due to an accident at an un-manned level-crossing there. As a result, the train was delayed for about three hours. According to the railway officials, the negligence of a lorry driver in crossing the un-manned level-crossing along with his vehicle near Thondapadu village, about 12 kms from Gooty, while the train was approaching had almost cost him his life. The lorry, AP-29-T8215, in order to escape the Road Transport Authorities’ checking tried to circumvent the checking spot on the NH-63 by taking to a short-cut route. The lorry was carrying iron ore load from Bellary to a cement unit in Yerraguntla. Driver of the lorry Sattar (35) noticed the approaching train but tried to manoeuvre the level-crossing with the confidence that he would get through safely. However, the engine hit the lorry right at it was crossing the track. The lorry broke into two and was thrown on the either side of the track. The train came to a grinding halt about a km. later even as the driver applied brakes immediately. A portion of the engine and the track got damaged with the two front wheels of the engine coming off the track. Driver Sattar and cleaner Laxminarayana (30) were rushed to the hospital at Gooty. The two hailed from Mahabubnagar district.
