G. Venkataswamy HYDERABAD: Rumblings are continuing in the ruling Congress over the move to constitute a second States’ Reorganisation Commission (SRC) for separate Telangana and Vidarbha. After holding out the threat to resign, Congress Working Committee member G. Venkataswamy has demanded that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy clarify his stand on statehood for Telangana. He took objection to the Chief Minister’s silence on the issue and reminded that Dr. Reddy “is the Chief Minister of Telangana region too.” Stance questionedMr. Venkataswamy’s statement assumes significance in the light of the comments made by another senior leader, M. Satyanarayana Rao, that statehood for Telangana could not be achieved as long as “there is no change in the attitude of Dr. Reddy.” “How can the Chief Minister leave the whole issue to the party high command,” Mr. Venkataswamy asked. He wanted Dr. Reddy to explain about the prevailing “sentiment” among the people to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and convince her to take a decision at the earliest. The CWC member’s comments were, however, opposed by Roads & Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy who claimed that the comments aired in public would damage the party’s prospects in the region. Leaders faultedMr. Jeevan Reddy found fault with the leaders who were making remarks against the party leadership in public and said they could, instead, convey their views to the Congress high command through appropriate means.
