ARIYALUR: A delegation of sugarcane growers met Collector V.M. Xavier Chrisso Nayagam and thanked him for taking initiative for settlement of outstanding dues from a private sugar factory.
The delegation, led by Vivasaya Sangam leader Rajendran, called on the Collector on Monday.
The Collector reviewed the development works being undertaken in the village panchayats and suggested that all the works be prioritised and the list be sent to the district administration.
Mr. Nayagam advised the panchayats to generate revenue by according permission to new buildings, ascertaining collection of new tax and ensuring that electricity charge was made at the rate of Rs.3 per unit.
He advocated power saving through proper use of street lights. The panchayats had the responsibility to ensure that the welfare schemes reach the desired sections of society.
He directed the panchayats to be ready with a priority list for the coming financial year at grama sabha meetings slated for January 26.
