Maharashtra Chief Minister hands over permanent houses

To tsunami- affected families in Karaikal district



SOLUTION: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh addressing a function after handing over permanent houses to tsunami-affected families in Karaikal district in the presence of Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.

KARAIKAL: Maharashtra Government is spending nearly Rs.60 crore for tsunami rehabilitation works including construction of permanent houses for the tsunami affected families in the Union Territory of Puducherry, said Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, here on Saturday.

Addressing a function at Karaikalmedu coastal village near here after handing over 200 permanent houses built by Maharashtra Government to the tsunami affected families of Karaikalmedu and Kilinjalmedu villages, the Chief Minister said that these 200 houses with infrastructure facilities were built at a total cost of Rs.9.60 crore.

Out of the 200 houses, 120 houses were provided to the tsunami affected families of Karaikalmedu and 80 houses to the beneficiaries in Kilinjalmedu coastal village.

Decision

Mr. Deshmukh said that the Maharashtra Government had decided to construct 1,668 permanent houses for the tsunami-hit families in 12 villages in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

All the houses could be built and handed over by end of June this year he added.

N. Rangasamy, Puducherry Chief Minister, who presided over the function, said that all the tsunami rehabilitation works including construction of permanent houses for the tsunami survivors would be completed by end of March this year.

He pointed out that the Puducherry Government was according priority for the tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

Rakesh Behari, Chief Secretary of Puducherry, N. Vasanthakumar, Karaikal Collector, V. Narayanasamy, MP and V. Omalingam, MLA spoke.
