Yoga camp concludes

BERHAMPUR: A special week-long yoga camp for teachers concluded here on Monday.

It may be noted that the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Orissa has decided to include yoga as a compulsory subject for class 12 students for their physical and mental development. Yoga as a subject would mean 50 marks of theory and 50 marks of practical for the students.

Over 60 physical education teachers from different colleges of Ganjam and Gajapati districts took part in the yoga camp. N.K. Dalei and Swami Yogeswar were the instructors for the teachers attending the camp. During the camp, they were taught basic asana, pranayam and yogic kriyas.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Chandrasekhar Sahu was the chief guest in the concluding session of this yoga camp. He said it was a good effort by the education department to include yoga in the curriculum as the mental stress related to performance has increased many folds for the young students of present generation and they have started to suffer psychosomatic ailments.
