A splash of colour and camaraderie

Staff Reporter

It was all action at the inter-TVS schools sports meet

MADURAI: An impressive campus, a towering personality as chief guest and children bubbling with enthusiasm. What more could one ask for in a school sports meet?

The inter-TVS schools sports meet was organised with such flair and fun that not many people, who had gathered at the venue, opted to move out on Saturday.

Parents eagerly waiting to see their kids’ performance and faculty members were equal to the task, as they were on their toes to display their wards’ prowess to the public.

It was all action at the TVS Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

It was a true exhibition of colour and extreme hard work when the students came on to the arena to display different formations that held the audience in rapt attention.

From ‘Peace of India’ formation, in which the children emphasised national integration by wearing the tricolour as headbands, to the ‘Pyramid formation,’ students displayed precise techniques to attract the spectators.

They also showcased how a village festival would be conducted. They did not restrict themselves to amplified drum beating and extravagant folk dances. They also carried a student, dressed as a village deity, on a palanquin and went around the venue impressing everyone present. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest of the function Srinivas Venkatraghavan, former India cricket captain and umpire of international repute and honour, exhorted the students to be determined, disciplined and dedicated to taste success. He emphasised the significance of sports which helped a person to keep fit both mentally and physically. In all, more than 5,000 students from all six schools run by Lakshmi Vidya Sangham took part in the event.
