The road between Madurai and Melur is in a bad condition. So the motorists meet with accidents frequently on this stretch. Hence I request the authorities concerned to repair the road immediately. M. Rajan, Madurai. Parking lot at railway junctionDecorating Madurai Railway Junction is going on now stage by stage. But the parking lot for cars is absolutely insufficient. It is right time on the part of Southern Railway Division to construct an underground parking place immediately in front of the Railway station. I request the officials of Madurai Railway Division to take active steps to create this facility. R.G.Rethinam, Madurai. IIThe fee for parking cars in front of the Madurai Railway Junction has been increased from Rs.4 to Rs.10. Adding insult to injury, the contractor now collects the fee also from cars that just enter the area to drop the passenger and return without parking. Receipts being issued in such cases are for parking fee, and not for entry fee. Will the authorities concerned look see that the passengers who arrive in their cars are not penalised any more? SV.K.M. Thangaraj, Madurai. End ticketless travel menaceIt was disturbing to read the news that there have been organised ticketless travel ‘enmasse’ in certain pockets of the Tiruchi and Chennai railway divisions and the checking staff had a tough time in dealing with them, though paltry sums were realised from a few passengers. This is a serious problem and has to be tackled with iron hands with the co-ordinated efforts of the law enforcing authorities. Apart from the railways losing a heavy revenue, the ticketless travellers occupy not only general coaches to the detriment of genuine passengers but also upper classes sleepers. The railway administration has the bounden duty to ensure a safe smooth and hassle-free travel to the genuine passengers K. Muthiah, Madurai. Agriculture in tax netThis is with reference to a report in The Hindu that ASSOCHAM members are in favour of bringing agriculture into tax net. This sector is already with many hazards such as nature’s failure and fury, lack of infrastructure facilities such as power, water, proper roads, high labour cost, etc. Instead, subsidised timely supply of fertilizers provisioning of, fixed times in Government electronic medias to update their knowledge and recent happenings in that field, less paper work, in sanctioning of crop and capital goods loans would help them to improve their lot. S.S. Subramanian, Madurai.
