KOCHI: Public sector oil companies and the Petroleum Conservation Research Association are observing the period from January 15 to 31 as Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight. A number of programmes have been drawn up to create awareness on the need to conserve scarce natural resources and petroleum products. The focus will be on major target groups such as transport, domestic, industrial and agricultural sectors. Mass awareness programmes are to be launched, B. Ashok, State-level coordinator of Kerala and Lakshadweep of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight, said. Quiz, painting, essay and elocution competitions will be held in schools and colleges. The State-level inauguration of the programme will be held at the Fine Arts Hall in Kochi on Tuesday. Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas will inaugurate the celebrations. He will flag off a mass rally on conservation, in which over 500 children from various schools in Kochi will take part.
