Another draw for Anand

NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand’s search for a win in the Corus chess tournament continued following a third successive draw after four rounds at the Wijk ann Zee, in Holland, on Tuesday.

Hari’s second win

On the brighter side, P. Hari Krishna scored his second victory to share the lead in group ‘B’ while Parimarjan Negi bounced back to post two successive wins in Group ‘C’. Koneru Humpy, however, is struggling after two draws and two losses in Group ‘B’.

Anand drew with England’s Michael Adams in 56 moves of Queen’s Indian to reach 1.5 points.

On Monday, Ukraine’s Pavel Eljanov proved equal to Anand.

Defending champion Veselin Topalov lost to Judit Polgar and joint top seed Vladimir Kramnik scored his first victory at the expense of Eljanov.

Leaders Magnus Carlsen and Levon Aronian stayed ahead following a 36-move draw.

Hari got the better of Dutch tailender Wouter Spoelman in 80 moves while Humpy drew with England’s Nigel Short in 40 moves.

Parimarjan does well

Parimarjan, who defeated joint leader John van der Wiel in the third round, overpowered China’s Li Shaoling with black pieces in 48 moves.

Group ‘B’: P. Hari Krishna (3) bt Wouter Spoelman (Ned, 0); Nigel Short (Eng, 2) drew with Koneru Humpy (1); Ivan Cheparinov (Bul, 2.5) bt Ian Nepomniachtchi (Rus, 2); Etienne Bacrot (Fra, 3) drew with Sergei Movsesian (Svk, 2.5).

Gabriel Sargissian (Arm, 1.5) drew with Erwin L’Ami (Ned, 2); Hou Yifan (Chn, 1.5) drew with Daniel Stellwagen (Ned, 2.5); Michael Krasenkow (Pol, 1.5) drew with Jan Smeets (Ned, 3).

Group ‘C’: Li Shilong (Chn, 2) lost to Parimarjan Negi (2); Arik Braun (Ger, 4) bt Mark van der Werf (Ned. 1.5).

Fabiano Caruana (Ita, 3.5) drew with Dmitri Reinderman (Ned. 2.5); Pontus Carlsson (Swe, 3) bt Dennis Ruijgrok (Ned, 0).

John van der Wiel (Ned. 2.5) drew with Peng Zhaogin (Ned, 1); Irina Krush (USA, 1) lost to Efstratios Grivas (Gre, 2.5); Anna Ushenina (Ukr. 0.5) lost to Friso Nijboer (Ned, 2).
