Festivities mark ‘Parveti Utsavam’
Staff Reporter
TIRUMALA: Splendour marked the ‘Parveti Utsavam’ observed at the Parveti Mandapam, situated about two kilometres from here, amidst the thick Tirumala forests.
In connection with the Makara Sankranti Parveti Utsavam, the processional of Lord Venkateswara, attired in the robes of a traditional ‘King Hunter’ was taken out on a hunting expedition to the venue, Parveti Mandapam.
Soon after the conclusion of the traditional formalities, the mock hunting was observed amidst great religious fervour. While thousands of devotees witnessed the hunting safari with great amusement, the deity equipped with ‘panchayudhas’ - sankham, chakram, gada, banam and khadgam, hunted a couple of deer tied in the nearby bushes. The temple priest headed the ceremony carrying a golden spear.
The ceremony was followed by ‘Pranaya Kalaham’, conducted at the north-east corner of the temple complex.
Earlier in the morning, ‘Goda Parinayam’ was observed inside the temple complex.
In this connection, the temple management had cancelled all day-time rituals inside the temple.
