‘I ensured largest budgetary allocation for their welfare’ BJP will fulfil all promises if voted to power: Yeddyurappa SHIKARIPUR: Former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Wednesday that no previous government in the State had worked for the welfare of women as the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition Government, which had made a budgetary allocation of Rs. 150 crore for their development. ConferenceInaugurating a women’s conference organised by the State BJP Women’s Morcha here, he said that if he could ensure the largest budgetary allocation for women’s welfare as the Finance Minister it was because he was aware of the plight of women, particularly in rural areas. Mr. Yeddyurappa claimed that the introduction of Bhagyalakshmi Yojane, Madilu, distribution of bicycles to girls studying in government schools and sanctioning of loans at four per cent interest to women’s self-help groups were some of the schemes included by him in the budget. PlansHe said that he had many other plans for the development of the State with an emphasis on women’s problems to make Karnataka “Ram Rajya” and they would have been introduced had the Janata Dal (Secular) kept its promise to extend support to the coalition government led by him. “But the Janata Dal (Secular) proved that it was no longer interested in the welfare of the State by going back on its promise made to his party,” he added. Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the Bharatiya Janata Party was committed to improving the socio-economic conditions of women. The party would effectively implement the promises made in its election manifesto if it was voted to power in the State, he said. Secretary if the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party M.B. Bhanu Prakash, and actors Shruti Mahendar and Sudha Belagur spoke on the occasion. President of the State BJP Mahila Morcha Bharati Shetty, MLCs Shobha Karandlaje and Srinath, director Mahendar, president of the district unit of the BJP Girish Patel, president of the district BJP Mahila Morcha Suvarna Shankar, and former MLC Shantaveerappa Gowda were present.
