PUDUCHERRY: Burglars broke open the rear door of a doctor’s house at Jhansi Nagar during broad daylight on Wednesday and decamped with 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery. According to the Reddiarpalayam police, the doctor and his family had left for his native village Thirukkanur on Wednesday morning to celebrate ‘Pongal’. When he returned home in the evening, he found the rear door open and things strewn inside the house, the police said. The doctor lodged a complaint saying that he had lost 18 sovereigns of jewellery. Sniffer dogs were pressed into service and finger prints collected, the police said.
