Jalandhar: Police on Wednesday kept a Congress councillor in detention for hours here to quiz him for his alleged involvement of the recent case of kidnapping of a coloniser’s son. The councillor, Dinesh Dhall was summoned by the police at about 11 a.m. and was detained till 4 p.m., police sources said, adding that after a huge number of supporters of the councillor reached the place, he was allowed to go with an assurance of his presence in future, if needed. Asked about the reasons of detaining of the councillor, Mukhwinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said that during investigation in the kidnapping case of Micky, son of a renowned coloniser, it was suspected that the two councillors were involved. The police said that another Congress councillor Sukhmit Singh alias Deputy was also wanted in the case but was reported absconding and even his mobile was switched off. “Since Sukhmit could not be contacted, Dhall was summoned for questioning about his whereabouts,” the DSP said, adding Vikramjit, cousin of Sukhmit, was also questioned. Earlier virtually on the typical Bollywood style, son of a city-based coloniser was kidnapped by unidentified masked desperadoes on Wednesday, who later made a ransom call to demand Rs 5 crore from his family. -- PTI
