Transport minerals with valid documents: Collector

Staff Reporter

Warns of stern action against vehicle owners defying norms

Frequent vehicle checks being conducted to prevent illegal quarrying of minerals

No fine imposed for vehicles transporting construction wastes

NAMAKKAL: The district administration will initiate stern action against persons transporting rough stones, cut stones, sand, red earth and other minerals without having valid documents, including dispatch slip, Collector G. Sundaramurthi cautioned.

The Collector, in a statement, said that the department of geology and mining was issuing permits for mining to the quarry owners and dispatch slips for transporting the minerals.

Dispatch slip

The dispatch slip has the information such as time of dispatch, vehicle number and weight of the mineral. Frequent vehicle checks were being conducted to prevent illegal quarrying and transporting of minerals. Vehicles were being seized and fine was being imposed if the minerals were transported without proper documents.

The Collector also said that the Public Works department issues documents to the lorries carrying sand quarried in the Cauvery River.

Legal action would be initiated if the sand was transported without the documents issued by the authorities concerned.

The administration could not permit the sale and transport of sand through tractors in small quantities without valid documents.

Severe action would be initiated against persons, if they were found doing so.

The Collector also clarified that no fine was being imposed for vehicles transporting the construction wastes and silt taken from the drainage channels.

Appeal to public

Mr. Sundaramurthi appealed to the people not to buy sand and stone transported without valid documents.

This would help prevent illegal quarrying of sand and stone.

Seeks cooperation

He also requested the vehicle owners to cooperate with the district administration and transport minerals with valid documents.
