Six taken ill after food poisoning

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: Six persons were admitted to the T.D. Medical College Hospital here on Tuesday night following food poisoning.

According to the police, the six persons were relatives of patients at the MCH and complained of vomiting, stomach ache and diarrhoea, reportedly after consuming food from a hotel near the MCH. Those admitted were Sini, 22, a native of Mararikulam; her mother Selin, 40; Shaukath Ali, 63, from Kollam; Mohan, 50, a native of Nedumudi; Sumesh, 23, from Neerkunnam; and Suresh Babu, 38, from Thuravoor.

While officials have taken their blood samples for further tests, inspections were conducted on the hotels near the MCH.

One hotel was ordered to close. Officials are also inspecting the chances of contaminated water having caused the illness. The six persons are still under treatment.
