ANANTAPUR: State secretariat member of Communist Party of India (CPI) and State president of A.P. Rythu Sangham K. Ramakrishna said that Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy has been talking about merger of Anantapur with Karnataka in the event of bifurcation or trifurcation of Andhra Pradesh only to cover up his failures as minister. Talking to newspersons here on Wednesday, the CPI leader felt that as a minister Mr. Diwakar Reddy did nothing for the district. He had failed to protect the interests of the district time and again and as a result, the district remained backward. His concern on the fronts of irrigation and power problems in the district too were smelling rat.Denial of irrigation, drinking water and power supply in the district could be attributed to the failure of successive rulers for the last three decades. The proposal to construct a dam across Tungabhadra was, in fact, conceived by the British and allocation of 10 tmcft water to PABR was still a mirage. The minister had failed to get new industries to the district. In fact, the largest co-operative spinning mill in Asia set during the Nehru era at Guntakal was closed during 1992-93, when Mr. Diwakar Reddy was the minister, the former CPI legislator noted.
