Witness to change

As an octogenarian and devoted reader of The Hindu for 60 years, I was privileged to witness the newspaper’s epoch-making change of bringing news to its front page 50 years ago. Some distinctive features of The Hindu are etched in the memory of old-timers like me. One of them is the social and personal column which announced the movements of VIPs in the city. This was discontinued at a later date. Elders are proud to recount for their grandchildren the saga of The Hindu personally witnessed by them.

M.K.B. Nambiar,

Mahe

I was working at Devaruppala village in the 1950s. I used to get the paper by mail from Madras. I recollect January 14, 1958, when its front page was changed.

To this day, I preserve the dummy miniature copy of the paper, published on the day, as a valuable document.

M. Satyanarayana Rao,

Warangal
