Corrections and clarifications

* * The picture of Narendra Modi offering tulabharam at Guruvayur (January 15, 2008) was wrongly credited to K.K. Najeeb, The Hindu’s stringer photographer at Thrissur. He had only procured the picture, and the credit should have been “By special arrangement.” The wrong credit created misunderstandings among readers.

* * Steve Waugh’s plea must have fallen on deaf ears and not years (“The Sydney Test: will it revive fairness?”, Editorial page, January 15, 2008)

* * “The reason for the success in Gujarat, he said was that his regime believed in the principal of `a minimum government maximum governance’” (“Convert development process into mass movement: Modi,” Chennai, January 15, 2008). It should have been principle.

* * The 1 Down clue in The Hindu Crossword 9119, (January 12, 2008) was “Machines — the French accept one providing a grip.” A reader says: “The in French would be either le, la or les. ‘Of the French’ would indicate du. But if the answer is to be de (de vices) the clue needs to be `Of French’”. The compiler agrees that the clue could have been better worded as “Machines of the French, including one providing a grip.”
