SINGAPORE: Five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders, now in detention without charges and trial under Malaysia’s tough Internal Security Act, “will go on a hunger strike” later this month, according to the organisation chairman Waytha Moorthy. Mr. Moorthy told The Hindu from London on Wednesday that the hunger strike was to protest against their “continued detention.” As of now, they proposed to begin the hunger strike from January 21. He did not foresee the possibility of their release at this stage. Held under ISAThe five leaders, P. Uthayakumar, V. Ganapati Rao, M. Manoharan, R. Kengadharan, and Vasanthakumar, were arrested under the ISA on December 13 last year. The authorities were not required, under that law, to state any reasons for detaining them on grounds of national security concerns.
