Akash Wagh advances

GURGAON: Akash Wagh worked his way past Ronak Manuja 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the boys’ pre-quarterfinals of the ITF Grade II junior tennis tournament at the NTA Complex here on Wednesday.

The left-handed Akash will be up against fourth seed Joachim Sternbach of France in the quarterfinals.

Chandigarh’s Vijayant Malik outplayed wild card Mansingh Athare for the loss of one game for a place in the quarterfinals. Malik will meet Lewis Barnes of Britain. Palash Tiwari was lucky to get a walk-over from fifth seed James Richardson and he will now face fourth seed Sudanwa Sitaram in the quarterfinals. Chandril Sood was the other Indian to make the quarterfinals.
