THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The prestigious G.V. Raja Award, the highest sports award in Kerala, was presented to World boxing champion, K.C. Lekha, by the Chief Minister, V.S. Achuthanandan, at a glittering function at the Durbar Hall here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister hoped that all young talents would emulate the deeds of Lekha and bring laurels to the State and country. He said the Government was exploring ways to bring about a radical change in the sporting scene in the State. The Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar, in his presidential address, underlined the various schemes that the Government had introduced for improving the standard of sports and games in the State. “However, we are not going to rest on our laurels our aim is to introduce more projects which would help sports in Kerala gain a momentous leap during the next few years,” he said. The Revenue Minister, K.P. Rajendran, presented to K.M. Beenamol, the title deed of the land sanctioned to her by the Government for building a house in the city. The KSSC President, T.P. Dasan, welcomed the packed gathering, while the Thiruvananthapuram Mayor, C. Jayan Babu, offered felicitations. V. Sivan Kutty and V. Surendran Pilla, both MLAs, were also present.
