KOCHI: Train services on the Ernakulam-Kottayam route were disrupted for more than two hours after an electric line fell on the railway tracks near Ponnurunni on Wednesday evening. Thousands of passengers had a harrowing time due to the delay on the part of railway authorities in restoring services. The Shoranur-Trivandrum Venad Express was the first train to be affected when the electric post fell on the tracks at around 5.30 p.m. Passengers said that the distribution line was not strong. Lack of scrutinyThey alleged lack of maintenance and scrutiny on the part of railway authorities as the reason behind the incident. Railway officials reached the spot after sometime and started work to restore the services. Passengers staged a protest against the delay in restoring the services. Railway police officials who tried to restore normalcy faced the wrath of passengers. More railway personnel were pressed into service later. The Venad Express resumed service after two hours.
