BJP ready to admit leaders who have no conditions

Staff Correspondent

‘Leaders should not demand ticket to contest elections’

Welcome: Bharatiya Janata Party leader G.M. Siddeshwar welcoming Congress leader M. Chandrappa into the party in Chitradurga on Wednesday.

Chitradurga: The Bharatiya Janata Party has kept its doors open to all political leaders who wish to join its ranks, provided they do not demand ticket to contest the polls, MP and BJP State unit vice-president G.M. Siddeshwar has said. The decision to allow them to contest the elections would be left to the party high command, he said.

He was speaking at a programme to induct the former Bharamsagar MLA and Congress leader M. Chandrappa into the party here on Wednesday. Mr. Siddeshwar said several political leaders had shown interest in joining the BJP. “Every new person joining the party has been boosting our morale and help strengthen our base in Karnataka. It also shows that the people want to distance themselves from the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular),” he said.

‘Unhappy’

Defending his decision of joining the BJP after quitting the Congress, Mr. Chandrappa said he was unhappy about being a part of the Congress and was unimpressed with what he termed the “selfish” politics of Janata Dal (Secular) leaders. Hence he decided to join the BJP.

“It was also the decision of the people of my community, who advised me to take this step,” he said. Mr. Chandrappa said the BJP should not be branded as a communal party as it had introduced several projects for the welfare of the people, regardless of their caste and creed.

In reply to a question, he said he had joined the party without any preconditions.
