Keen wait: Actor Rashmi at the shooting of ‘Mandakini’ in Chitradurga on Wednesday. Chitradurga: The historical city of Chitradurga, which is gradually turning into a favoured destination for filmmakers, offers them several fascinating locations for shooting including the famous Chitradurga Fort. The film “Mandakini,” starring actors Rashmi and Chetan, is currently being shot here. Journalist-turned director Ramesh Surve told The Hindu that since the script demanded a location such as Chitradurga, the crew was here. He said with the State having such rich heritage and culture, he wanted to project its diversity in the film. “We have been covering 20 districts and about 40 taluks of the State, whose glimpses would be included in the 10-minute-long song,” he said, and added that artistes from the region had also been roped in for the shooting. Mr. Surve said he wanted to incorporate traditional forms of art and folk culture such as Kolata, Yakshagana, Dollu and Tamate of the State in the production. He said that although the film displayed a considerable amount of Karnataka’s heritage and culture, to maintain its commercial spirit, steps were being taken. “We have seven songs and fight scenes also to cater to a specific segment of viewers,” he added. ReleaseHe said over 90 per cent of shooting had been completed and that the film would be ready for release in February. Speaking about the film, Rashmi said she had considerable expectations from it and added that she was looking forward to the people’s response. Actor Chetan said the film held more significance for him as this was his first as a protagonist. After performing small roles in many films, he hoped it would do well at the box office.
