In the wake of poor response, it was now extended to BCs Government sanctioned 4,000 units under the scheme VIZIANAGARAM: Sutthi Pydithalli of Sarika village in Vizianagaram mandal wants to sell his cow supplied to him under Chief Minister’s ‘Pasu Kranti’ Pathakam because the milk yield per day is not more than seven litres against the assured 10 litres. Owing to less fat content they are not getting more than Rs. 9 per litre. Kinthada Adinarayana, Pavada Ramu and a few more beneficiaries have expressed similar view. “We want to get rid of the animals. But there are no takers. Whoever wants to buy them is offering Rs. 5,000 per cow. We expected the government to supply us buffaloes because the returns are high.” The government sanctioned 4,000 units under the scheme at Rs.27, 000 per unit cost, including Rs. 9,000 towards fodder. Of the unit cost 50 per cent was subsidy and banks would bear the balance amount. The objective of the scheme was to uplift the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes who are living below the poverty line. In the wake of poor response from them it was now extended to backward classes. The idea was to procure high yielding milch cattle from other states and supply them to the beneficiaries so that they can eke a living during lean season. DocumentationThough the scheme was sanctioned in the first phase for the district, it fell flat for a number of reasons, particularly due to delay in documentation at banks. Some 193 beneficiaries in Vizianagaram, Merakamudiam, L.Kota, S.Kota and Jami mandals have so far availed the benefit. No farmer approached MPDOs for sanction of units though Jiyyammavalasa mandal was allotted 140 units, Garugubilli 100, Dattirajeru 149 and Vepada mandal 100. In all, 1,021 applications received from other mandals were pending for sanctions. The bankers, however, were reportedly seeking a letter of agreement from beneficiaries that registered societies would collect milk from them regularly for releasing loan. The societies fearing recovery of loan amount from them were unwilling to enter into an agreement. Collector B. Kishore at a meeting with bankers asked them to issue DDs by January 25.
