BERHAMPUR: The city police nabbed five members of a gang of highway robbers operating on the stretch of NH 5 passing through Orissa. Three other members of the gang managed to escape. According to Berhampur Superintendent of Police Nitinjeet Singh, the gang was involved in stealing goods from running trucks on the highway. All arrested persons were from Khurda district. This gang was operating in a very organised manner. They were using three bikes and a van for their operation. On their vehicles they used to follow loaded trucks on the highway at night. Some members of the gang were managing to board the running trucks from behind. They were then cutting open the tarpaulin cover of the goods section of the trucks. The goods taken out from the truck were thrown out on the highway and collected later.
