CPI(M)’s district meet to focus on water, land, SC, ST issues

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: The Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s tenth Medak district meet slated to begin on Friday would discuss issues like drinking and irrigation water shortage, distribution of land sites besides problems faced by SC, STs and artisans.

District secretary Chukka Ramulu hoisted party flag near the New Bus Stand as a curtain raiser to the three-day district-level meet.

Singur waters

According to a press release here on Wednesday Mr. Ramulu demanded a fair share of Singur water to the district.

He pointed out that the district never received even 5 tmcs of water even though its share of Godavari river water is around 125 tmc.

Mr. Ramulu urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to declare steps taken to complete the Devadula lift irrigation project benefiting Siddipet and Chevella-Pranahita that would irrigate large tracts of parched land in the district.

Land to poor

The CPI(M) also demanded land to all eligible poor and criticised efforts to distribute land under fourth phase without taking into consideration the lists submitted by the CPI(M) during its six-month long Bhoo Poratam in the district.

Public meeting

The District meet would begin with a public meeting near the Babu Jagjeevan Ram statue on Friday. Elaborate arrangements are being made for the meet. CPI(M) district secretariat members B. Mallesh, Rajaiah, district committee members Sayilu, Sateesh also participated in the flag hoisting programme.
