Scholars honoured

PUDUKOTTAI: Three scholars from different religions were honoured with ‘Manitha Neya Maanbalar’ awards during the Pongal celebrations jointly organised by the Pudukottai District Tiruvarul Peravai, Mavatta Varthaga Kazhagam and Rotary Club of Pudukottai held on Monday.

The Collector, D. Uthirakkumaran presented the awards to R. Ramaiah, president of the Kamban Kazhagam, Durai Diraviyam of Devan Agency and Khaja Mohideen, Headmaster of the Arabic Oriental High School in recognition of their services to the local society.

The Superintendent of Police, Kapil Saratkar honoured all the three with shawl.

The president of the Tiruvarul Peravai, A. R. Noor Mohamed inaugurated the celebrations with the president of the Rotary Club of Pudukottai, M. Srinivasan in the chair.

The president of the Kannappanayanar Eye Donation Campaign Centre, C. Govindarajan, the president of the Mavatta Varthaga Kazhagam, A. Kasiviswanatham, the president of the Tiruvarul Peravai, R. Sampatkumar, district secretary of the Red Cross, J. Raja Mohamed, R. C. Church Parish Priest, Marthandapuram, Rev. Philomin Raj, honorary president of the Varthaga Kazhagam, R. Xavier, president of the Ilakkiya Peravai, M. Muthu Srinivasan and others offered felicitations.
