HYDERABAD: Congress leaders from Telangana continued to air their views on the demand for separate Telangana State, ignoring the appeals made by the AICC general secretary M. Veerappa Moily and the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Congress leaders from the region did not heed to the appeals and continued to up the ante on the statehood demand. The Chief Minister, speaking to reporters in New Delhi, had said that he had discussed the prevailing political situation in the State. He said he had briefed Mrs Sonia Gandhi and the AICC general secretary about the furore in the State about the SRC. “It was decided by the high command that no one, including me, should talk about the SRC and the Telangana issue in public, as the high command was seized of the matter. It is an old decision but is being reinforced by the high command,” he observed. Convenor of Telangana Congress Leaders Forum K.R. Amos said their statements would not amount to party indiscipline. He said the party high command should also take note of the utterances of the Andhra leaders, who were provoking the leaders of Telangana. “If they stop using provocative language, where is the need for us to make such statements,” he reasoned. Meanwhile, the Telangana Congress leaders held a meeting at the residence of MLC B. Kamalakar Rao. The meeting saw the leaders giving a new twist to their demand for a separate State. They demanded that the sale of Government lands should be stopped. They went to the extent of claiming that if a separate State was created the lands disposed of would be resumed.
