Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Rajasthan’s annual Plan outlay for 2008-09 has been finalised at Rs.14,000 crore at a meeting here between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and State Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia.
It includes an additional Central assistance of Rs.100 crore provided for priority projects of the State.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Ahluwalia hailed the State Government for its efforts aimed at improving fiscal health. Rajasthan, he said, had not only achieved the targets laid down in the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act but also achieved additional improvements in the revenue and fiscal deficits.
He said that Rajasthan was expected to generate a revenue surplus next year as its interest payment liability has been contained and substantial increase registered in its capital outlay. Its debt-GSDP (gross state domestic product) ratio was much higher than the national average, he said.
On the human development front, however, the State has succeeded in marginally reducing the decadal growth rate of populationBriefing the Commission on the State’s Plan performance and future strategies, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia noted that the Government was laying greater emphasis on the social sector while maintaining fiscal discipline.
